Willson Academy of Performing Arts opened its doors for the first time in September 2005. We now have over 200 pupils taking part in dance classes ranging from Ballet, Modern, Tap, Street, Cheer, Ballet, Show Class and Musical Theatre.

Willson Academy has a fantastic team of professional and enthusiastic teachers with a wealth of knowledge and experience in their particular genre.

All weekday classes take place at Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School in New Malden, Surrey. All Saturday classes at Richard Challoner School in New Malden.

We aim to provide a well structured theatrical curriculum within a caring atmosphere, where young children and students can develop their love of dance and theatre, whether for enjoyment or as the basis for a professional career.

As ballet is the strong foundation for all dance genres, we start our very young budding ballerinas with Melody Bear First Ballet classes, which are specifically geared towards young children developing a natural love of dance and movement. This then leads to the beginning of preparatory ballet and formal classes. We have also recently added ‘Tip Tap Toe’, and Groovy Moves Modern classes for our budding young dancers, which work alongside and compliment Melody Bear ballet.

At the other end of the spectrum for children who are excelling in classical ballet, there is the opportunity to take part in the Junior/Senior Associate classes as part of the outreach programme for the Royal Ballet School. This exists to nurture young talented children in their pursuit of excellence in pre-vocational classical ballet. Added to this is our link with PPA a professional vocational theatre school in Guildford where the students can go for training days to be taught by industry trained teachers. http://www.ppacademy.co.uk/

As well as training, we provide opportunities for all students in whichever classes they have decided to participate in, to experience the excitement of the performance. The whole school is involved in our shows which take place every 3 years. We also take production numbers to ‘Her Majesty’s Theatre’ and The ‘O2’ with the company ‘West End Dreams’ http://www.westenddreams.co.uk/ . In addition to this, children from Willson Academy are encouraged to audition and perform with other professional production companies to enhance and hone their performance skills.
